The Republican party counterattacked Saturday in the investigation to dismiss Donald Trump by asking that the son of Joe Biden, Hunter, testify at the public hearings scheduled to begin Wednesday in front of the US Congress.

The US president is suspected of abusing his power by pressuring the Ukrainian government to investigate Hunter Biden and his father, a potential challenger for Trump for the 2020 presidential election.

The Democrats, the majority in the House of Representatives, intend to establish an impeachment file that could lead to the dismissal of the president.

The latter accuses Joe and Hunter Biden of being “corrupted”, especially because the son of the former Democratic Vice President has served on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company suspected of suspicious practices.

Hunter Biden’s “first-hand experience in Burisma” can help the American public understand the nature and extent of widespread corruption in Ukraine, said Republican MP, David Nunes.

He denounced a “mock procedure of indictment”, claiming that the testimony of Joe Biden’s son would bring transparency in an “opaque and unfair” procedure.

He also called as a witness the whistleblower who had reported to Congress allegations of pressure on Ukraine.

According to the whistleblower, Washington has conditioned the payment of $ 400 million in military aid to Kiev on the announcement of an investigation into the Biden, including a telephone conversation during which Trump demanded this “favour” from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Adam Schiff, the head of the Intelligence Committee, which oversees the House of Representatives’ inquiry, must approve the Republican minority’s demands but appeared Saturday opposed to bringing in both witnesses.

He declined in a statement that these public hearings provide an opportunity to relaunch the “mock investigation” against the Biden or “facilitate the efforts of the President (Trump) to threaten, intimidate or retaliate against the launcher. ‘alert’.

Mr Trump, for his part, again denounced a “witch hunt” of the Democrats, and “recommended” on Twitter a series of names to testify, including Adam Schiff, Joe Biden and the Inspector General of Intelligence, which had collected the testimony of the whistleblower.
