Top aides to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who were reported to have been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari, have denied the reports.

Naija News reported the sack of 35 aides from the Office of the Vice President despite not issuing any of them a query.

Among those allegedly affected are senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, technical assistants, and some whose appointments were approved in August.

Daily Trust on Thursday revealed the identities and positions of the aides affected by the sack order.

Furthermore, it has now been gathered that Vice President Osinbajo has retrieved the sack letters from the affected aides pending the return of President Buhari to Nigeria after the letters were issued to them through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The obtained list includes Ajibola Ajayi, the daughter of former governor of Oyo state, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi. She was appointed Special Assistant, Legal to the President (VP’s office) in August 2019. She also previously served as a SA to the President on Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE (VP’s office) from October 2015 to May 2019.

Speaking on the alleged sack, the Special Assistant to Osinbajo on Innovation, Ifeoluwa Adedayo, said he had not received any letter.

He, however, admitted that he had read about the development in the media, he resumed for work at the Presidential Villa.

“I have also been hearing about it but I have not received any letter. We are still resuming for work,” he told the Punch.

Also, the Senior Special Assistant on National Boundary Commission, Tola Asekun, in a separate interview with Punch, said the reports were false.

“Don’t believe all those things, please,” Asekun said before hurriedly ending the call.

Also, Osinbajo’s aide on National Economy, Ms Yosola Akinbi, said she was not sacked.

She also expressed displeasure with calls from her family members and friends seeking to know the truth about her job.

“Lol. Capital NO. I am in Ekiti State on a Human Capital Mission,” she wrote in a WhatsApp chat when asked if she was sacked or redeployed.

“I know my office will clarify. I am not on that list. I am not even SSA NEC. I am sure they will clarify it. Nothing (laughs),” she added when she was called.

When asked about her position in the government, Akinbi said, “I work in the National Economy (office), but that is not my title, that is not my portfolio. I don’t want to talk about it. Let the office clarify it.”
