Senate Confirms Justice Kanyip As President NIC

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip as President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

Naija News understands that Kanyip’s appointment became necessary as a result of the retirement of Justice Babatunde Adejumo after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years as provided by Section 291(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated Justice Kanyip as the President of the NIC.

the nomination by Buhari was disclosed in a letter he sent to the Nigerian Senate which was read on the floor of the Senate by the President of the Red legislative chamber, Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday, October 29.

On the President of the National Industrial Court, Buhari said: “Pursuant to Section 250(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I hereby write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Honourable Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

“While trusting that the Senate will consider this request in the usual expeditious manner, Please accept, Distinguished Senate President the assurances of my highest consideration.”
