Murder Trial Can’t Stop My Ambition To Become Speaker - Doguwa

Court Sacks Kano APC Federal Lawmaker

The Majority Leader of the Hosue of Representatives, Mallam Alhassan Ado Doguwa has been sacked on Monday by the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna.

Doguwa was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to represent the Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State.

The election petition tribunal had on September 5, dismissed a petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Yusha’u Salisu, against Mr Doguwa’s election on the grounds that he failed to prove allegations of irregularities and over-voting in the election.

However, in a unanimous judgment on Monday, delivered by Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie, the Appellate Court set aside the decision of the tribunal and questioned how it arrived at the conclusion that PDP and its candidate had failed to prove their case.

The Appeal Court also nullified the entire election in the two local government areas Mr Doguwa represents, declaring the entire process was marred by irregularities.

The Appeal Court ruling said the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), had omitted other parties, writing results for only two parties out of the 53 that participated in the election.

It, therefore, ruled that the final declaration of the result in the election in Form EC 8 (II) E could not stand.

The court, therefore, ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election within 90 days in the entire constituency.
