An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, on Friday has sentenced an 18-year-old man Adamu Saidu to five years imprisonment for stabbing a man Gali Khali who was celebrating with his football team after winning a match.

The Police Prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat said the case was reported to the Laranto Police Station by Khali on 11th October.

He said further that the criminal stabbed the defendant while celebrating with his football team after winning a match and that the defendant incurred a hospital bill of N9, 300.

He said the offence violates sections 58 and 215 and punishable under sections 59 and 215 of Plateau State code law.

The Judge, Mr Lawal Suleiman, then sentenced Saidu to five years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty for causing grievous hurt and begged the court for leniency.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N100, 000 and to also pay N5, 000 to the defendant.

He concluded that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such a grievous act of causing hurt.
