The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has berated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for failing to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reported that the Supreme Court had on Wednesday dismissed the case instituted by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the 2019 election victory of President Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The apex court ruled against the PDP and its candidate and in favour of the APC and its candidate. It noted that the suit instituted by Atiku and the PDP lacked merit.

The seven-man panel of the court, headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed in a unanimous judgement, affirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was validly elected as Nigeria’s President in the February 23 presidential election.

Justice Tanko Mohammed in his judgment said, “We have examined all the briefs and exhibits for over two weeks.

“And we agreed that there is no merit in this appeal. The appeal is dismissed. Reasons to be given on a date to be announced.”

The Supreme Court panel, however, said it will give more reasons for its decision at a later date.

But, in a swift reaction, Atiku said that as a democrat, he fought a good fight for the Nigerian people and would keep on fighting for Nigeria, democracy and justice.

Reacting in a post on Twitter, Kayamo berated Atiku for not congratulating President Buhari.

“Congratulations Nigeria! All the lies and deceit have come to a crushing halt,” he wrote.

“About 7 months ago, I said the substance of the Petition was the most useless I have ever seen. Now, we have been vindicated. Henceforth, the opposition need to raise its game and be more constructive.

“A man who claims to be a democrat refuses to congratulate the winner of an election, even after highest court affirmed it. Rather, he takes a swipe at ALL democratic institutions. That’s the hallmark of a bad loser. It appears the DUBAI STRATEGY turned out to be the DUBAI TRAGEDY.”
