Supreme Court Nullifies PDP, Atiku’s Appeal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the case instituted by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the 2019 election victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The apex court, ruled against the PDP and its candidate and in favour of the APC and its candidate. It noted that the suit instituted by Atiku and the PDP lacked merit.

The seven-man panel of the court, headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed in a unanimous judgement, affirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was validly elected as Nigeria’s President in the February 23 presidential election.

The Supreme Court panel, however, said it will give reasons for its decision at a later date.

As earlier reported by Naija News, other members of the panel are Justices Bode Rhodes-Vivour, Amiru Sanusi, Uwani Abaji, Ejembi Eko, John Inyang Okoro and Olukayode Ariwoola.

Atiku and his team had approached the apex court to challenge the September 11 judgment of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld President Buhari’s victory at the polls.
