A suspected vandal, Ahmed Hassan, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Command (Ogun State Chapter) at Ijumo-Ologboni village in Ewekoro Local Government of the state.

This was made known by the Ogun State Commandant of NSCDC, Hammed while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta today.

According to Abodunrin, the 27-year old suspect was arrested on October 12 after a hint was given by community members who raised the alarm over vandalisation and theft of the armoured cables in their area.

He explained that two members of the team fled when they sighted the NSCDC officials, but Hassan who hid himself inside swampy water with the vandalised cables worth over a million naira was eventually arrested.

He explained that Hassan claimed to be a motorcyclist and that he was hired by two people whom he identified as “Dogo and Yellow” to carry goods at Ijumo-Ologboni village.

“Investigations confirmed vandalisation of six armoured underground cables connected to two poles of a newly constructed light rail across Asipa-Ilao and Ijumo-Ologboni communities,” he said.

He said further findings showed that the vandals usually attack the communities during rainfall because they know that movements are usually restricted at such times

He added that the village and its environs had since been thrown into total darkness.

The commandant said investigations were ongoing on the issue adding that his men would surely apprehend the other two suspects at large.
