Six Killed As Gunmen Invade Imo Community

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped the Vice-Rector at the Queen of Apostle Spiritual Year Seminary, Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Arinze Madu.

Naija News that reports that suspected Fulani herdsmen had two months ago killed Rev FR Paul Offu, the Catholic Parish Priest of St. James, the Greater Parish, Ugbawka, in Enugu.

His death was announced through the Diocese Facebook page.

It read: “TRAGEDY STRIKES AGAIN IN ENUGU DIOCESE!!!

“With a deep sense of sorrow, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu announces the tragic death of REV FR PAUL OFFU who was shot dead this evening (1st August 2019) by some hoodlums suspected to be the notorious and murderous Fulani herdsmen, along the-Agbudu Road in Awgu LGA.”

According to The Punch, Fr. Madu was kidnapped at the gate of the institution on Monday, October 28.

Confirming the incident, the Director of Communication, Enugu Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, described the incident as “terrifying.”

Achi said, “In this year alone, two priests have been killed while three escaped.”

He also recalled that Rev. Fr. Clement Ugwu, of the St Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was kidnapped in his house on March, and was later found dead.

“On August 2, 2019, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu was killed by another gunmen [SIC] suspected to be herdsmen.

“Before Fr. Offu’s murder, Rev. Fr. Paulinus Ilo was attacked by Fulani Herdsmen along Numeh-Nenwe road in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state,” he said.
