Buhari Approves Fund For Enugu Airport

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of N10bn for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

According to the President who made the disclosure via his Twitter account on Thursday, the fund is an intervention fund for the upgrade of the airport.

It will be recalled that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) closed the runway at the airport for repairs on August 24.

The President gave the approval following a meeting with South-East governors and leaders from the zone at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

“I have approved the sum of 10 billion Naira for an Intervention fund for the upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. I have the assurance of the Minister of Aviation that the work will be done speedily and to the highest standards.”

“Even as we have many items competing for our limited resources, we will continue to prioritize infrastructure investments in every part of the country. It is our responsibility to ensure Nigeria’s infrastructure is fixed; we will keep doing this,” he said.

Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, also sought for declaration of a state of emergency on roads and erosion in the South East region.

In attendance at the meeting were other governors, National Assembly members, political leaders, business owners, and traditional rulers from the region as well as top government officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.
