Wike Reacts To Tribunal’s Judgment
Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor has reacted to the judgement of the Governorship Election Tribunal to dismiss the petition filed by African Action Congress (AAC) and its candidate, Biokpomabo Awara, seeking the nullification of his (Wike’s) reelection on March 9, 2019.
Naija News reports that Governor Wike’s reaction comes after the tribunal, headed by Justice Kingsley Ojiako, dismissed Awara’s petition on Saturday in a four hours judgment it delivered on the matter.
The election petition tribunal also dismissed a similar petition by the Action Democratic Party, ADP, and its 2019 governorship candidate, Victor Fingesi, seeking cancellation of the same election.
The Governor of Rives stats registered his reaction while speaking at the Government House in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers state capital on Saturday, October 5.
In his reaction, Governor Wike noted that nobody contested against him in the election.
Reacting to the Tribunal’s rulings, the Governor said: “It is so painful someone could say no election held in Rivers.
“Nobody ran the election against us. But for connections, how can anyone say he ran election against us in Rivers.
“I will never be distracted. I will do everything in the interest of Rivers. I will continue to work. Nothing will distract me”
In a similar vein, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, while rejoicing with Wike on the victory, said “justice has been served on Rivers people through the judgment.”
Wike’s re-emergence as Governor of Rivers state gives him the mandate to govern the state for a second term.
