Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended one Wasiu Mohammed, a son of a popular Chief in Ajowa community in the state.

Naija News understands that Mohammed was arrested alongside six other suspected kidnappers who have been terrorizing communities in the Akoko North West Local Government area of Ondo State.

This online news platform understands that Mohammed who is alleged to be the leader of the gang and other members of the kidnap syndicate were nabbed at the weekend with the combined efforts of security agencies in the state and local hunters.

The kidnappers were reported to have abducted a 45-year-old teacher and Muslim Cleric, Alhaji Jamiu Zakariyahu at gunpoint last week Wednesday at about 8 pm.

The abduction of Zakariyahu was what led to their arrest as Zakariyah was said to have escaped from the den of his abductors when they slept off in the bush. He encountered some local hunters who he met while fleeing from his captors.

While confirming the arrest made, the Police Area Commander in Ikare-Akoko, Rasak Rauf, disclosed that the suspects had been transferred to the state headquarters of the Nigerian Police in Akure, the state capital.
