Lawan Calls For Security Protection Along Abuja-Kaduna Road

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has urged security agents in Nigeria to immediately stop using the Abuja-Kaduna rail and leave the trains for the masses.

Lawan made the call during the Senate plenary session on Wednesday when the issue on the cases of insecurity along the Abuja-Kaduna road came up.

According to him, security agents in the country were to use the roads so as to clear the criminals harassing innocent members of the public and make the roads safer again.

Naija News reports the activities of kidnappers and other criminals along the road has forced many road users to abandon it and instead travel by rail.

“We will also insist that uniform people must not join the train because they are the ones supposed to protect us on the highways,” he said.

“The military, police and all these paramilitary agencies should allow ordinary people to use the train. Let them ply the roads because they will clear the road for other road users to go on the road.”

On the issue of funding for the security outfits, he reiterated the government’s commitment to meeting the needs but noted that the use of such funds will henceforth be subjected to more scrutiny to ensure judicious use.

We need to be radical. We need to give them more funds. It is not enough to give them money, we must see how they utilise the money,” he said.

“We need to go back to the report on the ad-hoc committee on security infrastructure. We could go by way of public hearing to review security infrastructure. The way they are, we are not getting the best out of them.”
