There was panic and gunshots in Bayelsa House of Assembly earlier on Monday as the Speaker Emmanuel Tonye Isenah was expected to step down.

It was gathered that while the House was sitting, Isenah adjourned the plenary indefinitely in a tactical maneuver to foil his removal.

Naija News understands that while the lawmakers were sitting, suspected hoodlums, who were said to be armed as well, fired warning shots into the air, throwing the whole chamber into a state of confusion before fleeing the scene with the mace.

The hoodlums, who arrived about 10:58 am, were said to have overpowered the Sargent-at-Arms and security operative who couldn’t help the situation, as lawmakers scampered for safety.

The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Tonye Isenah was however expected to resign today at the floor of the house following pressure mounted on him by some Peoples Democratic Party’s leaders to resign ahead of the ‪November 16 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Some of the state’s lawmakers have reportedly elected Monday Obolo as the new speaker. Obolo is representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2.
