Emery Names New Arsenal Captain

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has finally named a replacement for the departed Laurent Koscielny as Arsenal’s permanent captain for the season.

A report by BBC Sport on Friday said Emery named Granit Xhaka as the club’s new permanent captain after consulting with his players.

Naija News recalls Koscielny who left for Bordeaux during the last summer transfer window had been the long-standing captain for the team.

Since his departure, Arsenal had not had a substantive captain, within the armband rotating among several senior players.

However, with this recent development, Xhaka, 27-year-old Switzerland international who has captained Arsenal in six of their eight games in all competitions this season, is now expected to lead the club against Manchester United in their Premier League clash on Monday night at Old Trafford.
