1. Senate summons CBN Governor, AGF Malami, Others Over P&ID $9.6b Contract

The 9th Nigerian Senate has summoned the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele over Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) Limited $9.6billion penalty awarded against Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the Senate led by Senator Ahmad Lawan summoned AGF Malami and the CBN Governor alongside other relevant government agencies after a closed-door session on Tuesday, September 24.

2. Buhari Swaps Festus Keyamo’s Ministerial Position

President Muhammadu Buhari has redeployed Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Naija News reports that Keyamo, a Nigerian lawyer, swapped positions with Tayo Alasoadura, the Minister of State of Labour, who moved to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

3. Atiku, PDP Appeal Presidential Election Tribunal Judgement

The former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and his party have filed their appeal against the judgement passed by the presidential election petitions tribunal at the Supreme Court.

Recall that the tribunal had dismissed the petition of Atiku, PDP and affirmed the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

4. Court Grants Sowore Bail

The Court presiding over the case of Sahara Reporters’ publisher and a presidential candidate who participated in the general election, Omoyele Sowore on Monday granted him bail.

Naija News recalls that Sowore was earlier arraigned before the court over alleged treason case that is not unconnected to the planned ‘RevolutionNow’ protest.

5. Senate Sets Date To Inaugurate Standing Committees

The 9th Nigerian Senate has set Wednesday, September 25, to inaugurate its standing committees at plenary.

Naija News reports that this was disclosed by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan after a closed-door session on Tuesday.

6. PDP Dares FG To Probe Osinbajo Over N90billion Fraud Allegation

A thorough investigation has been called for by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the alleged fraudulent collection of N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in which names of key personalities in the presidency has been mentioned.

PDP dared Buhari not to hide the truth which is described as “humongous corruption involving highly placed officers in this administration, as it had done in the past.”

7. Protesters Storm Lagos Assembly, Demand Ambode’s Probe

Protesters have on Tuesday, in their large numbers stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly in a protest demanding the probe of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Naija News understands that the protesters under the aegis of Lagos Youth Vanguard (LYV) marched towards the Lagos State Assembly, armed with placards of various inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday stated that his government is currently facing and combating the challenges of corruption.

This the president stated in New York, while presenting the country’s National Statement as the fifth speaker on the first day of the General Debate during the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA74).

9. UN Envoy Sends Fresh And Urgent Message To President Buhari

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Adequate Housing, Ms Leilana Fartha has urged the federal government of Nigeria to urgently look into the housing deficit in the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Ms Fartha urged the government to impose vacant home taxes with a view to addressing housing challenges in the country.

10. Brexit: Supreme Court Rules Against Boris Johnson’s Decision To Suspend Parliament

Britain’s Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that the decision by the country’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson to suspend parliament was unlawful.

The court said a decision by the Prime Minister to suspend parliament in the run-up to Brexit was not appropriate ruling the decision as “void and of no effect”.
