2023: Abia Governor, Ikpeazu Speaks On Dumping PDP

The election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, has been affirmed by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

Naija News reports that a three-man panel of justices led by Justice A.L. Ogumoye dismissed the petition filed by the 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Alex Otti against the declaration of Ikpeazu as the winner of the March 9 governorship election in the Southeast State.

This online news platform understands that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal ruled that  Otti failed to prove the case of over-voting, non-compliance to the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) election guideline and the electoral act.

Naija News recalls that the APGA candidate had approached the tribunal, seeking to cancel fifteen out of the seventeen local government areas’ election results in Abia State.

Otti made this approach on the grounds that the respondents, PDP, and its candidate, perpetrated excessive malpractice in those LGAs in the last March 9, 2019, election conducted in the state.
