UNILAG Staff Commits Suicide

A staff of University of Lagos (UNILAG) staff identified as Sunday Meshioye on Wednesday took his own life after appearing before a disciplinary panel.

Naija News understands that Meshioye took his own life after consuming an insecticide, Snipper. It was understood that he consumed Snipper a day after his appearance before the panel.

This online news platform learned that the appearance of the UNILAG staff before the disciplinary panel became imperative after the UNILAG bus he was driving got burnt.

Upon the consumption of Snipper, Meshioye was rushed to the university’s health centre before being transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in the Idi Araba area of the state where he later died. He is survived by a wife and three children.

While confirming the death of the staff, the Lagos State police spokesman, Bala Elkana who noted that the matter has not been officially reported to the police but was quoted to have reacted to the report as thus; “Although there is no official report to the police on the incident, the deceased is a driver in the Sociology department of UNILAG. He was not a lecturer, but we are still waiting for them to report the matter.”
