1. Buhari Speaks On Closure Of Nigeria’s Border

Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President on Wednesday gave reasons for the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with the Benin Republic.

Naija News reports that Buhari cited the reasons not to be unconnected to the massive smuggling activities, especially of rice, taking place on that corridor.

2. El-Zakzaky, Iran’s Aim Is To Turn Nigeria Into An Islamic State – FG

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has been accused by the Federal Government of having a personal aim of establishing an Islamic State in Nigeria.

The Federal government also stated that the Shiites leader has the support of the Iranian government to achieve this aim.

3. APC Fixes New Date For Bayelsa Primary Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday moved its governorship primaries in Bayelsa State to August 31, 2019.

Naija News reports that the primaries were originally scheduled for August 29.

The change in date was made known in a letter to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.

4. 9th NASS: Senate President Lawan Promises To Support Buhari’s Next Level Agenda

President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has declared that the ninth National Assembly will give its maximum support to the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve a better, prosperous and secured Nigeria for the good of the citizens.

“We will make sure the ninth National Assembly gives him (Buhari) the full support needed to achieve the Next Level agenda in the interest of our people and the country,” Lawan said in his native home, Gashua, late Tuesday at a Town Hall meeting to round off a thank-you visit to his constituents in Yobe State.

5. Osinbajo Presides Over Economic Management Team Meeting

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, presided over the first Economic Management Team meeting of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2nd term.

The meeting is tagged: “Next Level. Agenda: Budget issues and is holding at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

6. Proscription: Court To Hear Shiites Motion On September 11

Following the recent proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shiites, the Federal High Court, Abuja has fixed September 11 to hear a suit filed by the movement asking the court to vacate the ex parte order it gave on July 26.

Justice Nkeonye Maha of Court adjourned the case after hearing the two counsels. The Solicitor General of the Federation, Mr Ayo Apata, SAN, had applied for more time.

7. Suspected Gunmen Kidnap ABU Law Students Along Abuja-Kaduna Road

Three students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria have been reported kidnapped on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The students are said to be in their final year at the faculty of law of the University.

8. President Buhari Participates In International Conference In Japan (Photos)

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari is currently in the Asian country of Japan where he is attending the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Naija News reports the international conference is holding in the City of Yokohama from August 28 to August 30.

9. 1999 Constitution Responsible For Problems In Nigeria – Afe Babalola

Chief Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, maintained that the 1999 constitution is responsible for the problems in Nigeria.’

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria stated this during a ceremony, where he was conferred with the African Role Model and the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassador awards by the African Union Economic Socio-Cultural Council.

10. Buhari: Withdraw Statement On IPOB, Fani-Kayode Tells Junaid Moh’d

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has urged Junaid Mohammed to withdraw his statement on President Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Japan.

Naija News had earlier reported that President Buhari travelled out of Nigeria to Japan to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) holding in the City of Yokohama, August 28-30, 2019.
