What Embassy Said About 77 Nigerians Listed By FBI

The Nigerian embassy in Washington DC has stated that it will cooperate with the Government of the United States over the 77 Nigerians accused of fraud by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Naija News recalls that the FBI in a press statement released in Los Angeles, California on Thursday by US attorney Nick Hanna, announced the arrest of 77 Nigerians in an ongoing investigation related to fraud cases.

The report also names Valentine Iro, 31, and Chukwudi Christogunus Igbokwe, 38, both Nigerian citizens as lead suspects in the case. It added that both individuals allegedly coordinated with others to launder the funds from victims.

Reacting, a statement signed by Mr Mohammed Suleiman, the Senior Counsellor/Head of Chancery, for the Ambassador, retired Justice Sylvanus Nsofor, the embassy said Nigerians are generally law-abiding and hardworking people.

It said: “The Embassy wishes to reaffirm that Nigerians are generally law-abiding and hardworking people wherever they are, including in the U.S.

“We wish to reiterate her willingness to cooperate with the government of the U.S. in accordance with the laid-down universal human rights and due legal processes in the interest of our nation.”

“The Embassy, therefore, appeals to her citizens in the U.S. to remain calm and continue to observe the laws of the host country at all times.”
