Following the call by the Federal Government to create Ruga Settlement, the Kano State Government has revealed that it will convert five forests to grazing reserves for herdsmen in the state.

The state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, stated this on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.

Governor Ganduje noted that his administration had inaugurated a technical committee on farm settlements for herdsmen in the state.

He further stated that the settlement would be an additional boost to the state’s socio-economic ventures.

Ganduje added that the settlement is driven at discouraging the movement of herders from North to South which has lead to herders/farmers crisis.

“We will provide social amenities such as hospital, veterinary clinic, market, security post and schools, so that herdsmen will enjoy facilities just like other Nigerians”. Ganduje said.

The Kano State Governor noted that the herders’ settlement should not be a federal issue but should be handled by the state government because they live and flourish in every state.

He promised that his government would redouble efforts to ensure that farmers enjoy more intervention programmes and projects to boost agriculture in the state.
