Ronaldo Overtakes Pele, Tops World Goalscoring List

Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted to paying his rape accuser Kathryn Mayorga the sum of $375,000 to settle the claim in 2010.

Mayorga had claimed that the Juventus attacker raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009, but Ronaldo had consistently denied her claims.

Las Vegas authorities had dropped the case saying that there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against the footballer.

A notice of voluntary dismissal was filed last month in Nevada state court in Las Vegas.

In the notice filed it was not revealed if the accuser, Mayorga, had reached a settlement with Ronaldo.

The model is however pressing ahead with a civil case against the former Real Madrid winger.

According to Ronaldo’s lawyers, the claim was already settled with a payoff and confidentiality agreement in 2010, TMZ reports.

In newly filed court documents, Ronaldo’s camp are said to acknowledge the $375,000 figure.

They insist the payment was not an admission of guilt, but merely an effort to keep the story from public attention.

Naija News recalls that Mayorga had stated that she had agreed to a financial settlement with Ronaldo shortly after the alleged incident because her emotional trauma at the time did not allow her to participate in the mediation process.
