Over 26 Million Nigerian Children At The Risk Of Meningitis Infection-FG Agency Reveals

The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib has warned against the impending danger of the Meningitis as  26.7 million children aged one to seven years are at risk of getting infected.

Naija News understands that the majority of the states in Nigeria with over 25 states and the FCT  are within the meningitis belt.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of the introduction of meningitis vaccination (Men A) into routine immunisation given to nine months old children Dr shuhab said that he use of vaccines was the only way to prevent meningitis for now.

The flag-off Program which also occurred in  Ondo state and other meningitis belts on Friday. An official of the agency,  Adetunji Adeoyealso said that meningitis remains a great health challenge in Nigeria.

He explained further saying that Men A vaccine would prevent children against the disease, assuring that it is safe and effective without any negative effects on children.

According to him, health workers have been trained to diligently administer the vaccine to all eligible children.

The state Commissioner for Health, Wahab Adegbenro, said the state government had not relented in ensuring that all residents, especially children, were in good health.
