Soldier Dragged To Court For Raping Student

Lance Corporal Sunday Awolola, the soldier dismissed for allegedly raping a 300-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, in Ondo State, has been arraigned in court.

Naija News reports he was arraigned on Wednesday at the Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Officers of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force brought the 33-year-old Awolola into the court premises around 9:30 am.

Recall some soldiers of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army were accused of raping a 300-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

The incident was said to have occurred at the military checkpoint at Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

However, investigations into the matter revealed only one person was involved and the military authorities exonerated the other soldiers.

Mr. Adelola, the accused has since been dismissed by the army and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Until his dismissal, he served under the 32nd Army Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, in Akure, Ondo State.
