The Top Things You Need to Know About the English Premier League

Here is a brief look at the changes you need to know which can help you bet better on Betway.

#1. The introduction of VAR

The beginning of next season will mark the debut of VAR in the Premier League. In November 2018 the English clubs agreed to use it on principle. Although there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the use of VAR, it is changing the sports world. The VAR has been used in other tiers such as Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

The VAR was first used during the 2018 Russian World Cup. Its primary purpose is to reduce errors and help the referees in making decisions. However, the technology is only used in four scenarios; red cards, penalties, goals, and possibility of mistaken identity.

#2. Using Referees from Overseas.

The 2019/20 season could mark the entry of foreign referees. One of the referees who has been confirmed to join the league is Australian Jared Gillette. He is one of the most talented officials in the country. In 2013 he was appointed in the FIFA referee’s list.  He will join the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

However, Gillette will start in Select Group 2, which means he will begin to oversee the Championship matches. Nevertheless, there is a likelihood that Gillette will become the first foreigner official to manage the top-flight league in Europe.

#3. Changes in the Kick-off time.

It is the norm for most fans that football should kick off at 3 pm. However, in the last couple of seasons, we have seen Skysports add a new kick-off time; 2.05 pm. It is expected that from next season there will be a new kick-off time. It is likely that eight premier league matches will be starting on Saturday at 7:45 pm. This means that more than 380 games of the league will be shown live. The new TV time will also include 30 games in three-midweek rounds.  This is not the first time that matches are being scheduled at this particular time. However, in the past, it was due to rescheduling, but from next season, the new time slot is part of the time table.
