The Zamfara State All Progressives Congress (APC) has been hit with major defections of its bigwigs to the People Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mukhtar Ahmad Anka, a former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Bature Umar Sambo, and ex-Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Muhammad Bawa Gusau, on Thursday defected to the ruling party in the state.

The defectors also included a former Commissioner for Youths and Skills Acquisition, Abdullahi Muhammad Gurbin Baure, seven serving councillors and 194 ward chairmen of the opposition APC.

Speaking during their formal reception into the PDP, Anka said more people had indicated interest to join the train on its way to salvage the state.

He also commended Governor Bello Matawalle for his exemplary leadership style.

Responding while receiving the defectors, Governor Matawalle stated that his administration is working hard to restore peace to the state.

“We are making an effort to restore peace to the state and our effort is yielding great result.

“Those living in our rural communities will testify to that. Economic activities have started picking up as rural markets have opened again,” he added.
