Popular Benue Market Leader Shot Dead

A popular market leader in Benue state, Tavershima Achinge, has been shot dead.

Naija News understands that Achinge was the chairman of Zaki Biam yam market association in Ukum local government of Benue state before his death.

The public relations officer of the police in the state, Catherine Anene, made this known in Makurdi, the state capital, on Tuesday, August 6.

Anene said the popular market leader was shot dead on Monday evening, adding that the incident was reported on Tuesday through the Ukum divisional police station.

Naija News understands that the entire Sankera axis, comprising Ukum, Logo and Katsina-Ala local government areas of the state, have witnessed unprecedented killings and criminality in the last four years in the north-central state.

This online news platform recalls that scores of people, including traders in Zaki Biam, were killed by unidentified gunmen in 2017.

Naija News reports that the market in question is said to be considered by many as the biggest place where yam is sold in Nigeria.
