Following the ‘Revolution Now’ protest across Nigeria on Monday, Journalists in Cross River State have protested over the detention of their colleague, Nicholas Kalu, by the men of Cross River State Police Command.

According to the report, Kalu, who is a correspondent of the Nation Newspaper was arrested on Monday at the Cultural Centre, the venue of the Revolution Now protest alongside two bloggers working with Crossriverwatch in Calabar.

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in Cross River State, Comrade Victor Udu, and other senior members of the union had made efforts to secure the release of the detained journalist but the efforts yielded no positive results.

Udu condemned the detention of the journalist, he stated that the reporter was at the venue of the protest to cover the expected protest.

Following the refusal of the police to release the journalists, Comrade Victor Udu has promised not to leave the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre until the Police release their colleagues.

Though there were hints that the detained journalist and bloggers would be charged to Magistrate Court One on Tuesday.
