Ado-Ekiti High Court Sentences Priest To 5 Years Imprisonment

Gabriel Asateru, A 53-year-old priest was sentenced to 5years imprisonment by high court Ado- Ekiti on Monday for defiling a 5-year-old girl.

Criminal offence according to Section 31 of the Child Rights Law Cap C7, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2005.

Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde stated that the prosecutors have proven its case beyond doubts with the use of valid witnesses.

Abodunde also instructed the defendant to pay N50,000 as fine as endorsed in the Child Rights Law, 2006.

Mrs Ronke Odefola, The State Counsel stated that the horrible crime was committed on or about 23rd December 2016 at Ayebaju Street, Ifisin Ekiti.

She stated that the Anglican priest, defiled the young girl when he visited her parents.

NAN reported that the accused was first taken to court in January 2018 meanwhile he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

To prove that the priest is pronounced guilty as charged, the prosecutors called on three witnesses from the Department of Public Prosecution, pieces of evidence presented include a doctor’s report, accused’s statements, and other witnesses statements.
