The presidency under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has said that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, because of a planned protest scheduled for Monday, August 5.

Naija News understands that the Presidency said the reason for the arrest of Sowore was to prevent him from setting himself ablaze in the cause of the protest.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on Social Media matters, Lauretta Onochie made this known on the microblogging site, Twitter while responding to a Tweet on Saturday.

Naija News recalls that Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests was on Saturday morning picked up by the DSS operatives in his apartment.

His arrest was confirmed when the presidential aspirant posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am on Saturday with although an eyewitness claimed that his phone was forcefully taken from him.

While reacting to the arrest of Sowore, Onochie who Tweeted her words and accompanied them with picture of a burning man, wrote, “This is What DSS Saved Sowore from. (See image)

“With talks about setting himself ablaze, it’s in order for the security operatives, whose role it is to safeguard both lives and properties, to take him into custody to prevent him from harming himself and get him the help he needs.”
