IGP Orders Manhunt For Killers Of Catholic Priest, Abducted RCCG Pastors

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammad Adamu, on Friday ordered massive manhunt for the killers of a Catholic Priest, Rev Paul Offu.

IGP Adamu also ordered intensified rescue operation for abducted pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Naija News had reported that Rev FR Paul Offu of the Greater Parish, Ugbawka, in Enugu State, was reportedly shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

His death was announced through the Diocese Facebook page.

Also, suspected gunmen on Thursday kidnapped five pastors of the RCCG.

The clergymen were abducted along the Ijebu-Ode axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on their way to attend the church’s Ministers’ Conference in Lagos.

The shocking development was disclosed by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Friday during his message at the ongoing ministers’ conference holding the Redeemed Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Adeboye who expressed sadness about the incident called for prayers from the congregation for the release of the abducted pastors.

In a statement to newsmen the spokesperson of the Force Headquarters, Frank Mba said “Crack detectives from the IGP-Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), the Forensic and Homicide sections of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) have been deployed to Enugu State to complement the Command in their investigations into the unfortunate incident.

“In addition, the AIG in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters has been directed to mobilize more units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel to black spots in Enugu State.

“In a similar vein, intensified operations have commenced for the rescue of RCCG Pastors who were abducted along J3 Area of Ogbere on their way to Lagos from the Eastern part of the Country.

“Tactical and Operational assets of the Force have been deployed with the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command taking the lead role in the search and rescue operations.

“The IGP, while condemning the killing of the Catholic priest and the abduction of the clergymen, calls for calm and assures that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

“He, therefore, enjoins the public to avail the Police with credible information that will assist in apprehending the criminals.”
