Man Slits Daughter’s Throat In Yola

A middle-aged man identified as Sa’idu Dan’iya, on Wednesday slit the throat of his eight-year-old daughter, Zahrah Saidu, in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Naija News understands that the incident happened on Wednesday at Inji Uku, Damare Ward.

Dan’Iya was said to have grabbed his daughter by the neck, while simultaneously holding on to a sharp, with the aim of allegedly killing his daughter.

Dan’Iya was said to have rolled the knife around the throat of his daughter, but for the timely intervention of a neighbour who caught him in the act and rushed Zahrah to the hospital where she is currently receiving treatments.

While briefing the Police in the state on the incident, Fadimatu Saidu, mother of the victim, said she was called from her workplace by a neighbour who witnessed the barbaric act.

While speaking, Fadimatu, who is the family’s breadwinner, said; “I work as a house help in the neighbourhood to feed the family.

All was well when I went out for work in the morning today, leaving Zahrah who has just returned from Islamiyya school with her father. 

Later on, a neighbour rushed out to call me back home, only to meet the tragic incident. You see how deep the cut to her throat is. It’s simply an attempted murder,” she lamented.

Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Suleiman Nguroje while confirming the report of the incident, said Dan’iya has been arrested and is in the custody of the police.

When asked why he decided to kill his daughter, the suspect, who showed no remorse, simply said, “I felt like doing it”. 

The Police Spokesman also revealed that Dan’iya has also been reported to have made death threats severally to his wife. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Yola.
