Tribunal Sacks PDP Lawmaker

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the capital of Ondo state has sacked Ikengboju Gboluga as the member representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.

Gboluga was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In nullifying his election, the tribunal on Wednesday ruled that Gboluga has sworn allegiance to the United Kingdom having acquired the citizenship of the country and therefore, was not eligible to contest the February 23 , 2019, National Assembly election in Nigeria due to his allegiance to the UK.

Furthermore, the Tribunal declared Albert Akintoye of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue Certificate of Return to him after withdrawing same from Gboluga.

In a similar development, Naija News recalls the Supreme Court on Tuesday, sacked Mustapha Usman, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Yola South/Yola North/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.

A five-man panel of the apex court ruled that Usman forged his credentials, he also did not participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
