Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has accused the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of illegally detaining two women in Abuja.

Odinkalu made this accusation on Friday with a post on Twitter showing the women lying face down in black apparel.

He said the women, Ummu, an undergraduate, and Fatima, a dentist, were shot and injured during the violent clash between the Shiites and the police on Monday.

“Ummu, a 200-Level Microbiology university undergrad & Fatima, a Dentist, were reportedly shot & injured during the #ShiiteProtest in Abuja, #Nigeria’s Federal Capital, last Monday.

“Currently detained with the #FSARS in Abuja, they have yet to receive any medical assistance,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has given a fresh order ordered to senior police officers in the country to beef-up the security in all the States of the Federation.

Naija News understands that the directive also called for the beef-up of the security in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, where the Shiites and the Police had a series of clash.

The fresh directive by Adamu comes after a series of violent protest and unrest by members of the Ibrahim El-Zakzaky’s group (Shiites) in the federal capital territory.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba said that IGP Adamu had assured citizens that proactive measures, including aerial surveillance of major cities had been initiated to ensure the safety and security of lives and property of all Nigerians.
