1. President Buhari Set To Travel To Liberia

President Muhammadu Buhari departs Abuja Friday for Monrovia, Liberia to attend the 172nd Independence Anniversary Celebrations of the country.

Apart from being the Special Guest of Honour at the event, Garba Shehu his media aide told Naija News in a statement on Thursday that President Buhari will receive “The Grand Cordon of the Knighthood of Venerable Order of the Pioneers,” Republic of Liberia’s highest national honour.

2. Gbajabiamila Names Heads Of House Of Reps Committees

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday named heads of the house standing committees.

Naija News understands that 13 additional committees have been set up, increasing the number from 96 to 109.

3. Magu Pleads With Interpol To Fast Track Diezani’s Corruption Trial

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu has pleaded with the United Kingdom (UK) to speed up the investigation and trial of former Petroleum Resources Minister Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Naija News learnt that the anti-graft agency boss accused UK of foot-dragging in the corruption case involving the former Nigerian petroleum minister for more than four years with no visible result and no end in sight.

4. Snakes Chase Out Lawmakers In Ondo State

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have gone on an indefinite recess following the invasion of snakes during sitting.

Naija News reports that snakes which dropped from the roof of the Hallowed chambers on Wednesday and Thursday resulted in the closure of the complex.

5. Imo: INEC Issues Certificate Of Return To Senator Uwajumogu

The Senator-elect, Imo North Senatorial District, Benjamin Uwajumogu, has been issued Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Senator Uwajumogu was on Thursday issued the certificate at about 4 p.m. at INEC Headquarters in Abuja.

6. Nigeria Moves 12 Spots Up On Latest FIFA Ranking

Just as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt was concluded, some days ago, Nigeria has moved twelve spots up from 45th to 33rd in FIFA’s latest rankings.

The ranking which was released today by FIFA had Nigeria’s Super Eagles maintaining its 3rd position in the continent.

7. Tunisia’s President Beji Caid Essebsi Dies Aged 92

Tunisia’s first and longest-serving President Beji Caid Essebsi, has died earlier on Thursday.

Naija News learnt that the office of the Tunisian president announced the death of the world’s oldest sitting president.

Former Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, has said he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because it was not doing well.

Ngige made this known on Thursday during his ministerial screening at the Senate.

9. Finally, Iran Govt Breaks Silence On El-Zakzaky’s Continued Detention

The Prosecutor-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammed Montazeri, has called on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

According to AhlulBayt News Agency, an Iran-based news organisation, Montazeri, in a letter last Saturday, urged the judiciary to allow El-Zakzaky to come to Iran for medical treatment.

10. Flights Disrupted As Abuja Airport Battles Heavy Flood

Following a heavy downpour at Abuja Wednesday morning, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, became heavily flooded.

The flood has affected the front stretch of the arrival and departure area, forcing massive disruptions in flight operations.
