AFCON 2019 Prize Money Revealed

The 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament hosted by Egpyt took place between Friday, June 21st and Friday, 19th July 2019 with 24 countries participating in the biennial football showpiece.

As previously reported by Naija News, Algeria defeated Senegal in the final game of the tournament on Friday to lift their second-ever AFCON trophy. Similarly, Nigeria emerged victorious against Tunisia to claim third place and the bronze medal in the tournament.

Following their exploits at the tournament, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the prize money for all participant countries.

According to the figures obtained by our correspondent, champions Algeria received $4.5 million, 2nd placed Senegal got $2.5m, while third place contestants Nigeria and Tunisia earned $2m each.

Egpyt, the host nation who disappointingly got eliminated in the round of 16, will pocket $670.000.

The prize money for other countries that participated is as follows:

Angola and Kenya (Third place in group-stages): $620.000

Round of 16: $670.000 (Benin, Uganda, Egypt, Mali, Guinea, DR Congo, Cameroon and Ghana)

Quarter-finals: $800.000 (Madagascar, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Benin).
