1. Senate Confirms Tanko Muhammad As Nigeria’s CJN

Justice Tanko Muhammad was on Wednesday confirmed by the Senate as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria following his successful screening during plenary.

As previously reported by Naija News, Tanko was earlier screened on Wednesday morning by the upper legislative chamber in a closed session.

2. Edo Crisis: Reps Threaten To Take Over State Assembly

The House of Representatives has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Governor Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation to convene the 9th Edo state assembly.

The federal lawmakers added should the governor fail to carry out the order within the stipulated time, they may have to take over the functions of the state lawmakers.

3. Buhari, Lawan, Gbajabiamila In Closed-Door Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met with Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Naija News understands that the meeting which is currently being held behind closed doors began at around 3:30 pm.

Tanko Muhammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has revealed that Nigeria’s judicial arm of government is corrupt and needs the intervention of the Senate.

When answering questions from Senators during his confirmation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria on Wednesday, he stated that the Judicial arm of government has challenges of corrupt judges.

5. Oshiomhole Vs Obaseki: Edo Govt Reveals Cause Of Assembly Crisis

Governor Godwin Obaseki has blamed the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the crisis rocking the Edo State House Assembly.

Speaking when the Senate Committee set up to look into Edo Assembly crisis visited the state for its fact-finding mission, the governor stated that the failure of the APC leadership to properly investigate the issues lead to the crisis.

6. Senate Takes Decision On Investigation Of Senator Elisha Abbo

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday granted more time to the ad hoc committee investigating the allegation of assault brought against Senator Elisha Abbo (PDP-Adamawa North).

This is following the request by the Chairman of the panel, Senator Sam Egwu (PDP-Ebonyi), during plenary.

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Frank Okiye, warned the House of Representatives against moves to disrupt activities of the State Assembly.

8. 2020 Budget: Lawan Speaks On Buhari’s Next Level Cabinet

Senate President Ahmed Lawan on Wednesday said the delay in the submission of the ministerial list by President Muhammadu Buhari will not affect the 2020 budget.

Lawan made this known while speaking to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari.

9. Nigeria’s External Debt Rises Above $25bn

There has been an alarming increase of about 148 percent in Nigeria’s external debt stock according to data made public by the Debt Management Office (DMO).

The data showed that in about four years, the country’s external debt soared to $25.61bn on March 31, 2019 from $10.32bn on June 30, 2015.

10. Insecurity: PDP Charges Buhari To Declare State Of Emergency

Following the open letter written by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on the security situation in Nigeria.

The Chairman of PDP made this statement during a press conference in Abuja Tuesday evening.
