Senate Under My Watch Was Not A Rubber Stamp - Lawan

Senate President Ahmed Lawan on Wednesday said the delay in the submission of the ministerial list by President Muhammadu Buhari will not affect the 2020 budget.

Lawan made this known while speaking to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari.

Naija News reported that Buhari had met with Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting may be connected to the yet to be submitted ministerial list by Buhari.

It was also gathered that the ninth National Assembly is planning to hold a security summit towards addressing insecurity in the country.

Speaking after the meeting, the senate president explained that budgets were usually prepared by civil servants and not ministers per se.

Lawan stated that so long as the budget was laid before the National Assembly by September, the legislature would do its own beat by passing it speedily.
