Senate President Ahmed Lawan on Tuesday approved the appointment of Ola Awoniyi as his new Special Adviser on Media.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mohammed Isa, Lawan also appointed Karage Mamman as his Deputy Chief of Staff.

The senate president appointed Abubakar Usman as Special Assistant on New Media; Kabir Adamu as Special Adviser on Security and Intelligence, and Muhammad Mukhtar Yawale as Special Adviser on Health.

Naija News understands that all appointments take effect immediately.

Awonyi is a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he obtained a first degree in Psychology.

The 58-year-old also obtained two Masters degrees (Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice) and (International Affairs and Diplomacy) from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

He worked with Nigerian Tribune for over a decade before he joined the services of Agence France-Press, where he was the Head of the Abuja office.
Awoniyi replaced Mr Festus Adedayo, who was dropped following an outcry by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) including First Lady, Aisha Buhari, over his appointment.
