1. Shiite Protesters Storm National Assembly Complex, Set Cars Ablaze

Some cars parked at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital were destroyed by some members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) better known as Shi’ites.

Naija News reports that the protesters who stormed the National Assembly complex, on Tuesday, set some cars ablaze and destroyed some items worth millions of Naira in the attack.

2. Atiku vs Buhari: See The Results Of States Atiku And PDP Are Contesting At The Tribunal

Indications emerged on Monday that the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate in the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will challenge presidential election results in 11 states.

Atiku and PDP are challenging the election victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the nation’s electoral umpire.

3. Senate Proposes Death Punishment For Perpetrators Of Child Rape

With claims of rape and sexual assault rising in Nigeria, the Nigeria Senate on Tuesday moved to frame laws that would make perpetrators face capital punishment.

The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial district, Rose Oko, while moving the motion on Order 42 and 52 of Senate rules, stated that victims of child rape have been on the increase, she called on the Senate to intervene.

4. Lawmakers Forced To Adjourn Sitting As Shiites Attack National Assembly

Members of the house of representatives hurriedly adjourned their sitting on Tuesday after members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shi’ites forcefully broke into the National Assembly complex.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, told other lawmakers that they would have to adjourn “due to security concerns” while an executive session would be held to deliberate the incident.

5. Atiku Vs Buhari: We Were Given Confidential Code To Transmit Result – Ad Hoc Officer

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, was on Tuesday, told by an Assistant Presiding Officer 1, Ogunsanya Abiola, how the Independent National Electoral Commission did not disclose the name of the server into which the results of the Presidential election were electronically transmitted.

Abiola, while speaking at the tribunal stated that the commission only gave them a confidential code with which to access the server.

6. Buhari Meets Baru, Kyari Behind Closed Doors In Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met with Maikanti Baru and Melee Kolo Kyari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Naija News reports that Baru is the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), while Kyari is his successor.

7. Presidential Election Tribunal: PDP’s Atiku Defeated Buhari In Katsina – Party Chieftain

Atiku Abubakar defeated President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State during the 2019 election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state Chairman, Salisu Maijigir, told the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Naija News reports that the PDP and Atiku are challenging the declaration of President Buhari as the winner of the 2019 Presidential Election.

8. President Buhari Approves Special Promotion For Some Top Military Officers

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the accelerated promotion of some senior officers of the Nigerian Army.

A statement issued on Tuesday, July 9, by Colonel Sagir Musa, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, says the President has promoted Major General LO Adeosun, the Chief of Training and Operations at Army Headquarters, to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

9. Presidential Tribunal: Atiku Calls 9 Additional Witnesses

The Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and his party, on Tuesday, called 9 witnesses who testified in his petition praying the presidential election petition tribunal to void the election of February 23 on grounds of non-compliance with electoral laws, violence, thuggery, non accreditation of voters and non qualification of Buhari to contest the election.

Naija News reports that the witnesses which included President Muhammadu Buhari’s kingsmen disputed the return of the President by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the presidential election at the presidential election petition tribunal which resumed hearing on Tuesday, July 9.

10. General Tukur Buratai Remains Chief Of Army Staff, Nigerian Army Reveals

The Nigerian Army has denied the alleged report about the President sacking Nigerian Chief Of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai from office.

The misunderstanding was more viable and went viral when a statement released by Colonel Sagir Musa, the Acting Director Army Public Relations announced the promotion of Major General LO Adeosun, the Chief of Training and Operations at Army Headquarters, to the rank of Lieutenant-General.
