Two persons have been confirmed dead, while an undisclosed number of persons are still missing after a passenger boat capsized in Lagos state.

Naija News reports that boat loaded with 20 passengers had taken off from Badore in Ajah enroute Egbin jetty, Ijede in Ikorodu on Saturday evening when it capsized.

Three persons were also rescued after the boat capsized in Lagos.

Three of the passengers were said to have swum their way out of the ocean while two bodies were recovered on Sunday afternoon.

It was gathered that About 14 persons including the boat driver were missing and being searched by rescuers.

Sources revealed that all on-board were not wearing live jackets, adding that the driver had succumbed to pleas by stranded passengers to take them to Ijede even without their life jackets.

No one was putting on life jacket. The boat driver was not on duty, he was coming from where he had gone to repair his boat. On his way back, he saw the passengers and they begged him to take them to Egbin, Ijede.

“Emergency workers are searching for those missing. So far, Two bodies have been seen. The cause of the accident is not known yet,” said a source.

While confirming the incident, The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was said to have acknowledged the occurrence of the accident but said details of the accident was still sketchy.
