Buhari: Baru Breaks Silence On Replacement As GMD NNPC

The outgoing group managing director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, has stated that he is willing to serve Nigeria if called upon.Naija News recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appointed Mr Mele Kolo Kyari as the new NNPC boss that will take over from Baru.

The appointment takes effect from July 7, 2019.

Presidential Election Tribunal: Party Wants Petition Against Buhari Withdrawn

A faction of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has asked the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal to withdraw the petition filed by the party challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.

Naija News reports that the presidential candidate of the HDP, Ambrose Owuru, who polled 1,663 votes in the election, had filed the petition with his party challenging the declaration of Buhari as the winner. Owuru alongside HDP urged the tribunal to nullify Buhari’s re-election.

Next Level: Falana Gives Strong Warning To Buhari Over Appointments

Human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana (SAN) has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing his aides to remain in office despite the expiration of their tenure.Falana is of the opinion that the action of such aides taken on behalf of the presidency could be declared illegal if challenged in court.

The legal luminary further stated that the right thing to do would have been for the President to re-appoint such aides if he wishes to continue working with them.

PDP Orders Fresh Congress In Kogi State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ordered a fresh congress to elect new officers for its Kogi State Chapter. Naija News understands that the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, made this known in Lokoja, the state capital on Friday, June 21.

Ologbondiyan said that the decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to hold the congress was due to the fact that the tenure of the present state officers will come to an end on July 22.

Why We Want To Ban Al-Majiri System Of Education – FG

The federal government is nursing plans to stop the Al-majiri system of education, as parts of strategies aimed at tackling insecurity.

This was disclosed by Babagana Monguno, national security adviser, at the end of the national executive council meeting in Abuja.

He said the ban is to ensure that no child is deprived of basic education.

“Almajiri is a system of Islamic education practiced in northern Nigeria. Almajiri was derived from an Arabic word, rendered “al-Muhajirun” which in English means a person who leaves home in search of knowledge.

Monguno opined that Almajiris are threatening to the security of the society as many of them end up being used as “criminals” and become drug addicts.

He said: “I also briefed the council on the drivers of insecurity which are unemployment, under-employment, poverty, drugs abuse, rising population.

Kaduna State: PDP Seek Appeal Court Over Petition To Recount Votes Of Governorship

The Court of Appeal in Kaduna will hear the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking for votes recount in the March 9 Governorship election in Kaduna State, on Thursday, June 27.

Mr. Elisha Kurah (SAN), lead Counsel to PDP and its governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru, who disclosed the information after the sitting of the governorship election Tribunal in Kaduna had turned to the appeal court after the Tribunal on May 28, struck out the petitioners motion seeking for a recount of votes cast in the governorship elections in the state, for lack of merit.

Ruling on the Petition, Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ibrahim Bako, said the tribunal had a timeline of only 180 days within which to complete its assignment.

Obasanjo Tenders Fresh Demand Before Buhari

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday urged the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFT) agreement.

Naija News reports that the former president of Nigeria made the call at the ongoing 2019 Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on Thursday, June 20 in Moscow Russia. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has congratulated Mele Kolo Kyari on his appointment as the Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Naija News had reported earlier that Kyari’s appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari was made known in a statement released by Ndu Ughamadu, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

See How Much PDP Pegged Governorship Form In Bayelsa, Kogi

As Kogi and Bayelsa state prepares for the forthcoming elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pegged the purchase of its governorship elections forms at N21m.

The PDP reached this conclusion after its 86th Emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting which was held at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

The party pegged the nomination at N20 million and the expression of interest form at N1 million.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP spokesman while speaking after the meeting, explained that the cost of the form was increased due to the high cost of conducting primaries.
