Just In: Bauchi Lawmakers ‘Elect’ New Speaker In 'Weird Way'

A new speaker has emerged for the 9th Bauchi State House of Assembly, but the speaker’s emergence came in “weird way.”

Naija News understands that eleven out of thirty-one elected lawmakers of the assembly reportedly picked a new speaker.

The lawmakers elected the lawmaker representing Ningi Central Constituency (APC), Abubakar Suleiman, as a speaker, on Thursday, June 20, a report monitored on PUNCH by Naija News revealed.

It was learned that the lawmakers also elected assembly member representing Zungur/Galambi, Danlami Kawule, as deputy speaker.

Meanwhile, Naija News understands that the development is coming a few days after nine lawmakers of the Edo House of Assembly were inaugurated “secretly”.

This online news platform learned that the nine lawmakers were sworn in on Monday, shortly after 15 others protested the delay in inaugurating the assembly, blaming it on an attempt by the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, to impose his loyalists as presiding officers.
