Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has picked his captains for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to commence tomorrow, Friday, in Egypt.

Naija News reports that the German picked John Mikel Obi as the team captain and also selected Ahmed Musa, William Troost-Ekong and Odion Ighalo as first, second and third deputies.

The players will share the captain’s armband duties among themselves during the tournament pending on who makes the line-up or stays on the pitch during substitutions.

Surprisingly, the Super Eagles coach shunned Brighton & Hove Albion defender Leon Balogun who had deputized in the absence of Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa.

This may be a hint that Gernot Rohr may not give Balogun enough playing time in the side as the defender played less last season for his Premier League side.

Recall that Balogun made his debut for the Super Eagles before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
