Supreme Court Picks Date For Judgement On Osun Governorship Election

Naija News reports that the Supreme Court on Monday, resumed hearing in the case to determine who is the authentic winner of the 2018 Osun governorship election.

The apex court sitting is been presided by Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko, acting chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The Court has during Monday’s hearing, fixed judgment for July 5, 2019 in the appeals filed by Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as touching the dispute over the last governorship election in Osun State.

A seven-man panel of the court, arrived at the date after taking final arguments in respect of the main appeal, marked: SC/553/2019 filed by Adeleke.

Naija News recalls Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been declared the winner of the governorship election held in September by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenged the result at the tribunal and was declared winner in March 2019.

Subsequently, Oyetola challenged the tribunal’s ruling in May and the appeal court in Abuja nullified the judgment of the election tribunal, ruling in favour of the governor.

Adeleke then headed to the apex court challenging the ruling of the appellate court.
