While Nigerians across the country garner their strengths towards the celebration of democracy day on Wednesday, some do not see any reason to celebrate owing to the number of losses recorded after an inferno in Edo state.

Naija News understands that an inferno in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12, razed down 30 shops at the popular PZ market located at Evboriaria in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.

The fire was reported to have been caused as a result of an electricity defect in one of the shops. The fire started at midnight while the shops were under lock and key.

Victims have since begun to recount their loss as many claimed that they left sizable amounts of money in their shops.

One of the victims, Blessing Justina who owns a beauty shop said she was informed about the fire by a relative but could not remove anything from her shop.

While confirming the report, Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha local government area, Eric Osayande, who visited the scene to ascertain the actual cause of the fire and has directed the Councillor, Ward 6, Hon. Obosa Jolly Ogbeide, to embark on needs assessment exercise of the burnt market.

Osayande was also reported to have directed the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Barr. Kingsley Iyamu and Director, Administrative and General Services (DAGS), Mr. Frank Osa-Idahosa to both prepare a draft for approval to rebuild the market.
