Okorocha Storms Out Of National Assembly

The immediate past governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has departed the premises of the National Assembly in Abuja after he was denied accreditation.

Naija News understands Okorocha had arrived the assembly complex on Tuesday ahead of the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly.

Upon arrival, he headed straight to the office of Mohammed Sani-Omolori, clerk of the national assembly. But after some minutes at Omolori’s office, he walked out of the national assembly complex.

It is understood that the former governor made an attempt to convince the clerk to accredit him and allow him to participate in the inauguration but his pleas were not successful.

Naija News recalls Okorocha contested the Imo west senatorial district election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was initially declared the winner.

However, Innocent Ibeabuchi, returning officer for the election, later disclosed that he declared the former governor winner of the election under duress.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, therefore, took a decision to withhold Okorocha’s certificate of return.

The ex-governor thereafter headed to court with a federal high court in Abuja ruling that INEC should issue Okorocha a certificate of return.

The electoral commission in response, however, said it will have to review the various court orders before it in order to take a final decision on the matter but expressed worries about “rewarding bad behaviour”.
