The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has lamented the suspension of AIT and Ray Power by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

The Director-General of NBC, Modibbo Kawu, announced the suspension of Daar Communications on Thursday.

Kawu said the action was taken for failure of the broadcasting station, to abide by the broadcasting code.

Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, former Vice President Atiku urged Nigerians to rise up to condemn the suspension.l

He wrote: “I am a lifelong Democrat and throughout my political life, I have championed the principles of Separation of Powers.

“The Legislature has been challenged. The Judiciary has been tackled.

“If at this time, we stand by as the Press loses its independence, there will be little to differentiate us from a dictatorship. This should not happen.”
