Sixteen (16) persons have been reportedly killed in the Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara state when armed bandits invaded the community in the evening of Tuesday, June 4.

Naija News reports that the bandits invaded the area with several sophisticated weapons and fired shots sporadically and indiscriminately, killing 16 persons almost immediately and leaving 14 others injured.

While confirming the attack, Yusuf Idris, the Director-General on Media to the state governor, Bello Matawalle, in Gusau on Wednesday issued a statement that read as thus; “the governor visited the community and sympathised with them”.

“During the visit, the governor also directed security agencies to immediately “swing” into action and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The governor also directed the movement of 14 persons, who sustained injuries from gunshots from Kanoma General Hospital, to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, for better medical care.

“The bill should be charged to the state government,” he said.

In the statement, Idris expressed the state Governor’s decision to join hands with well-meaning individuals and groups in the state to bring armed banditry in the state to a final stop.
