Samuel Ortom Signs State Pensions Scheme Bill Into Law

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has signed a state Pensions Scheme bill and three other bills into law.

Naija News learnt that the governor signed the four bills into law before proceeding to the venue of his inauguration for the second term.

Another bill signed into law was the bill for the establishment of Benue State Contributory Pensions Scheme in order to address the challenge of payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees.

Also assented to was the bill for a law to provide for the Administration of Criminal Justice in courts in the state and for purposes connected therewith.

The governor also signed a bill for a law to prohibit all forms of violence against persons in private and public lives, provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and for purposes connected therewith.

Ortom said his administration had taken it upon itself to domesticate laws that had positive impact on the state and enact those that would address challenges confronting the state.

The governor said that the PENCOM law would help address the accumulation of pension arrears and boost the morale of those still in service.

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Titus Uba, while presenting the bills to the governor for assent, said the Assembly passed the bills speedily as part of activities to wind down the Eighth Assembly so that the Ninth Assembly could start on a clean slate.

Earlier, Ortom and his deputy, Benson Abounu were sworn in for another four years of office.

In his inaugural speech, Ortom said he was a governor of all people, adding that his second term of office was to compensate the people of the state for their support.
